Teach Yourself Yoruba
Description: This book provides a complete introductory course in Yoruba, the mother tongue of millions of speakers living in Western Nigeria, in parts of Northern Nigeria, Togo, and Benin. This book is concerned with the generally accepted "standard" Yoruba which is understood even where regional dialects exist. No knowledge of the language is assumed, and every stage is illustrated with examples and exercises. Pronunciation, grammar, and syntax are comprehensively covered and the book will give you a basic, everyday vocabulary
Editorial Board Review: This book is very useful for learners who are interested in the structure of the Yoruba language. The book contains lots of information about Yoruba grammar. It is also useful for people who are interested in translating Yoruba into English or English to Yoruba. Since the goal of the book is to teach Yoruba structures, all the activities are on translation. The book is not useful for someone who wants to speak the language since there are no activities that encourage the use of the language for communication.
