Description: |
The Alawiye series have been the most popular series for learners of Yoruba for a long time. This edition is based on the language, literature, and the culture and customs of the Yoruba. The series were written based on modern Yoruba orthography so that learners can be familiar with this new orthography from the beginning of their studies, and so that using this new orthography will be easier for learners in their future studies of Yoruba. |
| Editorial Board Review: |
The third level of the Alawiye series is suitable for foreign learners of Yoruba at the late intermediate and early advanced levels of Yoruba language studies. All the Alawiye readers are only useful for foreign learners with the assistance of an instructor. The book contains lots of information on the language, literature, and culture of the Yoruba people. Most of the activities in the series are basically comprehension exercises, but a trained instructor can help learners using this series to apply, analyze, synthesize cultural issues discussed in the texts. Since the series are written in Yoruba only, the assistance of an instructor is crucial for learners to use the Alawiye series. They are definitely a window into the Yoruba language, literature, and culture. |
